Great Photographer, Blog and Cookbook

I have been following What Katie Ate for quite some time.  If you are not familiar, Katie Quinn Davies, she is a photographer that specializes in food and lifestyle.  Although it is not uncommon for a food loving photographer to create blog, there is something different about What Katie Ate that keeps that you coming back for more.

Frozen Raspberry Pomegranate Cocktail

Mum's Chocolate Meringues
Just in time for Christmas, she has published a beautiful cookbook!  I bought one for a friend and have on my Christmas list too - I can just imagine spending hours on a rainy afternoon reading cover to cover and flagging recipes for future dinner parties...Oh, to have free time!

Brass is back

We did this in the 80's and loved it.  It only makes sense that it is time to revisit the warm, shiny finishes on everything from faucets to furniture!  Over the past few years we have seen them in the high end markets, and they are now making their way mainstream.
Dwell
I love this counter...the edge detail is brilliant, the tone of the wood works beautifully with the brass hood fan and gold faucet.

House and Home
This renovation was featured in Canadian House and Home - this kitchen is interesting for so many reasons - the gold toe kicks, recessed pulls, herringbone floor, open fire...

House and Home
Not sure if you are ready to commit?  Just add gold in small details to accent an otherwise neutral colour scheme.  Mixing metals is okay - just like in your jewelry.

Great windows - the high gloss creates a nice balance with the glossy brass hood over the range.

Anthropologie
You could try this at home!  Pick up inexpensive white chairs from Ikea and some fabric paint.

With golden retrievers too!!

Little Girl's Dream House!

This playhouse is part of a much larger project I have been working on all spring.  It sits at the back of an acre size property in West Vancouver and is just waiting for the little girls who inhabit this home to arrive for the summer and bring it to life!!

The playhouse is bigger than it may appear!  The main floor has a kitchen, eating area and lounging area.  The front veranda has 4 adironack chairs complete with matching pool towels in case you want to take a dip in the infinity edge pool.

A little peek at the kitchen and dining area!

Follow the butterflies up the ladder to the library loft filled with comfy bean bags and lots of books!

Did I mention the windows are glass, the house is insulated and it has electricity!!
I might be a bit jealous...

Ambleside Home

The kitchen of this home was originally separated from the dining room and family room with walls on either side. In the renovation process, I opened this room up not only by removing the walls, but also by eliminating the upper cabinets, the "sunshine ceiling" and adding a window that runs the length of the room.

The family that lives this in home loves the mix of old and new. To accomplish that in the kitchen, I used classic carrara marble for the counters and backsplash. The range is La Cornue in a matte black finish. I had the range hood custom made to run wall to wall with a ledge deep enough to hold a cook book but then painted in chalkboard paint for a bit of fun.

When I opened up the kitchen, I needed to close off a doorway in order to have enough room for all the appliances.

Close up of the pendant lights over the peninsula.

Sun filled master bathroom! I utilized the existing skylight and lined up the waterfall tile pattern underneath it.

Fabulous powder room!  Thanks to the bold wallpaper this tiny bath is filled with blossoms floor to ceiling.  The vintage mirror has an etched retail of a flower basket.

Social Media

Lucky Me!  I have a social media expert working on my business this spring.  In addition to organizing and coordinating all my social media sites, he will be improving my website and updating it with photos of projects over the past year!

Check out the Trish Knight Design Facebook page  and my Google + profile where I will be focusing on interior design articles, new products and photos I know design lovers will enjoy.

I also have a new addiction - Pinterest - I am sure many of you can relate!! It is so easy and a great way to file and store inspiring photos.  I will be posting some pictures of my projects, but will mostly maintain the integrity of the Pinterest concept by pinning inspiring images - from travel and food to fashion and decor.  If you haven't created your own pin boards yet, I highly recommend it!   Let me know when you do!

Sneak Peak

I am spending some time over the next couple of weeks having recent projects photographed.    Stay tuned to my website for updates!

Spring Flowers

While we wait for a little heat and a bit more sun to help this years flowers burst into their full glory, enjoy these pictures I took last Mother's Day in Queen Elizabeth Gardens.

On the move!

After 2 years in my Kitsilano design studio it is finally time to move on to a bigger and brighter space.  Although there is lots of commercial real estate available in Vancouver right now, it was not easy to find the perfect location.  Too big, too small, too dark, too far from my home and clients...

After a couple of months of searching the soon to be perfect space materialized.  The new studio is in an old character building in a funky light industrial neighbourhood, filled with creative types, open high ceilings, and lots of natural light.  With a bit of negotiation the landlord has agreed to paint everything, change the windows, upgrade the lighting and renovate the bathroom.  I will take some "before" pictures in the next couple of weeks, in the meantime - here are some inspiring office spaces!
